The reasons builders are moving in are simple, said Lou Steffens of Beazer Homes.They are following the market.Demand is strong, which drives up profit margins.While land is more expensive, people are willing to pay more per square foot for a home."They can be significantly more profitable [per home] than going farther and farther out," Steffens said.The builders are developing different housing styles as well.

"We have looked at Savannah pieces and we're definitely going to be there in the future," said Lou Steffens, division president for the Atlanta-based Beazer.
