The performance will feature music composed by her longtime friend John Steffa, professor of music at Murray State University.
"He and I have been friends for quite some time," she said."John wrote this piece for me as a result of our friendship."
Vanarsdel will perform the New York premier of Steffa's "Festival Diversions" for flute and piano, a piece she premiered at APSU last spring at a Dimensions concert. She has since played the piece on several other occasions.
"This is going to be a whole new experience on a whole new level for me," she said of performing at the legendary hall."I keep telling myself that it's not going to be different, that my job is to go and play this piece well for John and be a good representative for Austin Peay and try to put out of my mind that I'm doing this at Carnegie that has such a tremendous history.
