    Jim Stefansic was raised in Baltimore , Maryland , and attended college at The Johns Hopkins University where he received a B.S. in biomedical engineering and was an All-American swimmer.Because he thoroughly enjoyed applying engineering principles to solving medical problems , he decided to attend graduate school at Vanderbilt University where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biomedical engineering.While at Vanderbilt Jim was actively involved in student government and served as president and treasurer of the Graduate Student Council.

    Jim concentrated on medical imaging in his graduate research which included quantifying errors in neurovascular images used in image-guided neurosurgery and developing an image-guided liver surgical system.After completing his graduate studies , Jim worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he initiated the first clinical studies in image-guided liver surgery.In both his graduate and postdoctoral work , Jim was fortunate to work closely with his advisor , Dr. Robert L. Galloway , Dr. William C. Chapman , an attending surgeon at Vanderbilt , and Dr. Alan Herline , a resident surgeon with a biomedical engineering background.

    Jim is currently working as a neuroimaging engineer for the Vanderbilt Vision Research Center where he assists psychologists , ophthalmologists , cell biologists , pharmacologists , engineers and educators with vision research.His main research interests are functional magnetic resonance imaging and optical imaging.This includes image acquisition , display , registration , and statistical analysis of imaging data.He also plans to incorporate functional imaging into image-guided surgical procedures.

    Jim and his fiancé Candy will be married in June , 2001 , in Nashville.His favorite activities include participating in triathlons , ballroom dancing , watching college and professional football , and taking walks with Candy and their beagle Charlie.

    Dr. Stefansic is the Chief Operating Officer at Pathfinder.He previously worked as a research assistant in Dr. Galloway's surgical navigation apparatus research lab, a division of the Center for Technology Guided Therapy in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University.After completing his dissertation, Dr. Stefansic was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.His graduate and postdoctoral research included the development of an image-guided surgical system for use in open and laparoscopic liver resection and ablation procedures.From 2002 through 2005, Dr. Stefansic was a Research Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University, where he conducted research in the field of functional brain imaging.In October 2005, he also completed his MBA at Belmont University with a concentration in finance and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.Since February 2005, Dr. Stefansic has developed both short and long term business strategies for Pathfinder and managed the day-to-day operations of the Company.
