Sergiu Stefanschi
A graduate of St. Petersburg's Vaganova Academy, Sergiu Stefanschi won the silver medal at the first International Ballet Competition at Varna, Bulgaria in 1964.He was a principal dancer with the Bucharest Opera House, le Théâtre Français de la Danse, and the National Ballet of Canada. Sergiu has been a full-time teacher at NBS since 1979, and has been a major influence in the development of the school's approach to classical ballet training.
In addition to his pedagogical talents, Sergiu is world-renowned for his capacity to bring the traditional classical ballets to life, and is responsible each year for coaching NBS students in their presentation of an excerpt from one of the great classics.Sergiu is a regular guest teacher at professional ballet academies and companies around the world, including the Royal Danish Ballet School, the Swedish Ballet School, the Hamburg Ballet School, the School of American Ballet Theatre, the American Ballet Theatre and the National Ballet of Canada. -
