Names Michael J.T. Steep Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Consolidates Strategic Business Units
San Diego, April 22, 1999 -- ENCAD, Inc. (Nasdaq NM:ENCD) today announced that it has named Michael J.T. Steep, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company, effective today.Steep, 45, currently is Senior Vice President and General Manager of ENCAD's Digital Imaging Solutions Business Unit.ENCAD also announced that it is consolidating its Digital Imaging Solutions and Textile Business Units, with all operations reporting to Steep, in order to further leverage the Company's resources in support of its solutions-based, vertical market strategy.Steep will continue to report to David A. Purcell, ENCAD Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, as will the Company's Finance, Quality, Human Resources and Legal functions.

Previously, Steep was the Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development for Lexmark, a $3 billion printer company.During his tenure at Lexmark, Steep was responsible for managing worldwide OEM operations, developing emerging North Asian markets and initiating new business opportunities.Steep was also President of Lexmark Japan.Prior to Lexmark, Steep held positions in general management at Apple Computer and Xerox.He started his career as a marketing engineer at Hewlett-Packard Company, having earned an undergraduate degree in business at the University of Pennsylvania and a master's in business administration from the University of Virginia.
