STAUFFER NAMED GENERAL CAMPAIGN CHAIR FOR NORTHEAST/UNMC NURSING CAMPAIGN
(NORFOLK, Neb.) ¡V Norfolk native Ron Stauffer has been named general campaign chairperson to lead the capital campaign for the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing Northern Division in Norfolk.The facility, with a total project cost of $12.9 million, will be located on the campus of Northeast Community College.The 35,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will house Northeast¡¦s basic nurse aide (often called certified nurse aide), licensed practical nursing and associate degree nursing programs and UNMC¡¦s bachelor¡¦s, master¡¦s and doctoral level coursework in one location. The College of Nursing Northern Division in Norfolk will mark the first baccalaureate nursing and graduate degree program in northeast Nebraska.The division would be the only publicly-supported nursing college in the area offering the degrees.Stauffer attended Norfolk High School.He retired from Tyco-Kendall in 2003 after 40 years of service to that organization, formerly known as Roehr Products, Brunswick, and Sherwood Medical, and now known as Covidien.The company produces healthcare products.Stauffer is now employed part-time in sales and marketing for Beckenhauer Construction of Norfolk.A former member of the Elkhorn Valley Historical Society Board of Directors, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Norfolk Family YMCA and the Northeast Community College Foundation Board of Directors for several years.He chaired the capital campaign that built the Elkhorn Valley Museum in 1997 and later chaired an endowment fund campaign that raised $600,000 for the museum.He is also a former member of the Norfolk City Council.He and his wife, Connie, reside in Norfolk.According to a feasibility study done for the project, it is estimated there will be a shortfall of 1,216 full-time registered nurses by 2010 and 3,838 full-time registered nurses by 2020 in Nebraska.The UNMC College of Nursing Division in Norfolk will help alleviate that shortage while providing close-to-home educations for students. Based on the successful completion of the capital campaign, the ground breaking for the facility has been tentatively scheduled for 2009.The first classes in the new building are tentatively set to start in the fall of 2010. ¡§Ron brings a successful history in fundraising to this effort,¡¨ said Northeast Community College President Dr. Bill Path. ¡§He has always been an enthusiastic member of our Foundation Board and brings that same enthusiasm to this campaign.Success is the only option for Ron.He has already worked tirelessly on this campaign and I know he will continue at that pace until he brings it to a successful conclusion.We are delighted to have him as general campaign chair.¡¨
