Julie Stackhouse joined the University of North Florida cross country and track & field programs in summer 2005 as their first full-time assistant coach.
Stackhouse, who spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Furman following a successful three-year career with the Lady Paladins, joined UNF's program as it began transitioning from Division II to Division I. UNF began participating in women's sprints and hurdles in spring 2006 as it works toward fielding a fully funded women's track & field team over the next two years.
Stackhouse's primary responsibility is coaching the team's sprinters, hurdlers, multis and jumpers.She will also work with thesquad's middle-distance and steeplechase athletes in addition to the UNF cross country teams.

The 28-year-old Stackhouse competed for two seasons at Clemson as a freshman and sophomore, earning All-ACC honors both years.She then transferred to Furman and won the Southern Conference championship in the 2000 and 2002 outdoor 800m run.Shecompeted in 10 events in the outdoor season as a senior, setting school records in the heptathlon, 800m run (2:11.41) and the4x800m relay (9:28.0).She also ran the 100m high hurdles, the distance medley, and the 4x400m relay.In addition, Stackhouse competed in the high jump, long jump, shot put and javelin.
In cross country, Stackhouse competed on the 2000 Southern Conference championship team with a best time of 19:20.45 at the conference championship meet.During her career, Stackhouse earned five All-Southern Conference awards, was a three-time academic honor roll member and was the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2002 Furman Invitational Track and Field Meet.
A native of Hayesville, N.C., Stackhouse helped Hayesville High to two state track titles during her prep career and was the individual state champion in the high jump, 100m and 300m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m and mile.She was the North Carolina Female Track MVP and Female Athlete of the Year all four years and completed her career as the owner of five state records and 10 school records, in addition to 16 state titles.
She graduated from Furman in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science and earned a master's degree from Furman in the same area in December 2002.
Stackhouse is Level I and II certified for USATF in multis and sprints/hurdles.
