  Dr. Kathryn Spellman joined the Huron faculty in 2002 where she teaches both in the International Relations Department, and also in the combined Social Science programme.She is a Research Associate at the London Middle East Institute at School of Oriental and African Studies and on the Editorial Board of the Middle East in London magazine www.lmei.soas.ac.uk.She is also involved in a number of organisations that focus on the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers, including the London Detainee Support Group www.ldsg.org.uk.Dr. Spellman is a consultant for the opera Ghaddafy, commissioned by the English National Opera.

  Kathryn Spellman received her MSc and PhD in Politics and Sociology from Birkbeck College, University of London. Her research interests include transnational migration movements, religion and gender in contemporary societies, and Iranian and Libya studies. Her book Religion and Nation: Iranian Local and Transnational Networks in Britain (2005) has recently been reprinted in paperback form. She currently lectures at Huron International University and Syracuse University, London campus. She is a Research Associate at the London Middle East Institute at SOAS and on the Editorial Board of the Middle East in London magazine. She is also a consultant for the opera Ghaddafy commissioned by the English National Opera.

  Kathryn Spellman received her MSc. and Ph.D. in Politics and Sociology at Birkbeck College, University of London, where she is currently an Honorary Research Fellow. She is a lecturer of sociology at Huron International University in London and Syracuse University (London Campus). Kathryn is also a Visiting Research Fellow in the Centre of Migration Studies Department at the University of Sussex.
