James Speck Jr. was born March 23, 1980 and raised in Alert Bay BC, located on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island. He is the oldest son of three children and a member of the Namgis First Nations Band.

He has been doing native artwork since he was 14 years old and picked up his skills by observing artists such as his father, James Speck Sr. and cousin Godfrey Bruce. He likes to do original prints and wall plaques.

He really enjoys doing the carvings and drawings of the native art because it is a part of who he is spiritually and it is also a part of my heritage. He will pass the skill on to his son who will follow in his footsteps.
