    Charlene Monahan Spearen received her MFA in Poetry from the University of South Carolina in May 2003, and is currently working on her Ph.D. in Composition in Rhetoric at the University of South Carolina.Charlene's poetry has been published in Yemassee, Writers at Carolina, Aspects, and Promise Magazine.She was the 2000-2001 co-winner of the James Dickey Award for poetry, and two of her poems received honorable mention for the 2003 Rose Veraldi Poetry Contest.Charlene is a guest artist at the SC Young Writers festival and the Tri District Summer Arts Consortium.Charlene was a featured artist and Creative Writing Instructor at the SC Statewide Writer's Conference, and she is Program Coordinator for Frisson: Artists Responding to Art, which is sponsored by the Columbia Museum of Art.In addition to her work in the Greater Columbia area, Charlene she has been a featured reader and Creative Writing Instructor in Ireland.Charlene is the coordinator for Adult Programming and community enrichment for Split P Soup.
