"Novato had a problem with uploading its data, and the state has given them a period of time" to address the issue, said Susan Spain, county deputy superintendent of schools.Novato school administrators could not be reached for comment Thursday.
While proud of the county's success on state tests, Marin school officials insist the scores are only a single measure of student achievement.
"Observations, classwork, homework and other kinds of informal assessments are good at putting (standardized test scores) in perspective," said Spain, who noted that a software program used by all Marin schools allows teachers to analyze all of that information about each student, identifying candidates for extra help.
