"It's quite a few stores for a center this size, but it's not a record for us," said Jim Spahn, the Galleria's marketing director.
The 10 new stores include Dry Ice, a home furniture store aimed at teens, which is scheduled to open this weekend; Delia's, a home furnishings and accessories store for teenage girls and young women, which should open this month; Big 10 Tires, an independent tire retailer, scheduled to open this fall; and Costco, a wholesale store, which is expected in the spring.
New stores that have already opened include bebe, a women's apparel store; The Children's Place, a children's clothing store; Street Corner News, which sells periodicals and snacks; Journeys, a footwear store, and two restaurants, Bistro & Grill and Sarku Japan.
The new shops total more than 112,000 square feet, according to mall officials.Officials say they're also optimistic about an announcement regarding the empty Macy's space.
...
Spahn said the announcement could take one of two forms. One would involve shuffling an existing store into the Macy's space and then filling the remaining vacancy. The other would involve attracting a new retailer to fill the Macy's building.
"At this stage nothing has been confirmed," Spahn said."There are several different scenarios being looked at. ... It's true anything can happen, but whatever does happen will certainly be in the best interest of the shopper and a benefit to the property as a whole."
