Allison Spahn, (pictured) the new youth minister for the Tri-Parish Community of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holy Family and Our Lady of Lourdes in Little Falls, has her hands full with learning the ropes of her job and the daily requirements of a youth minister."I've just had a lot of fun getting to know the parents and the youth," she said.
Originally from Park Rapids, MN, Spahn came to Little Falls with her parents and attended the Little Falls Community Middle and High School for grades eight through eleven. She also participated in the very same youth group she is now in charge of, but with a different group of youth."I still keep in contact with friends from youth group," she said.Spahn left Little Falls to attend Moorhead State University after graduating from high school.
During her first days on the job, Spahn was a little worried about getting along with the kids, wondering if they'd like her or not.Her fears were quickly alleviated."I have some really good parents and kids," she said.
The parents are always volunteering to help her, which is nice, since anywhere between 20 and 40 youth may show up at the regular Wednesday meeting."If they know it's going to be a fun night, more people will come,"Spahn said.
...
"I enjoy getting to know the kids and forming relationships with them," Spahn said."It's really neat to see how strong some of the kids are in their faith."Some of the youth are requesting more "prayer" nights than "fun" nights.A hay ride is planned for the near future.
In the meantime, Spahn is keeping busy with youth fund-raisers and weekend activities as well as keeping active in the Church community.
