Fire Chief Sowles entered the fire service in 1975 on the working end of a hand tool with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.Shortly thereafter, he was hired with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department as a firefighter, where he proudly served for two years.
Always enjoying new challenges, Chief Sowles' career directed him to the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department, where he would complete a tenure ofa decade.Throughout this period of time, Chief Sowles' dedication to the fireservice would allow him the promotional opportunities of: Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Fire Captain and Fire Prevention Captain/Arson Investigator.
Notably, while at San Luis Obispo City Fire Department, Chief Sowles wasappointed to the Governor's Arson Task Force and served as the Chair for theAd Hoc Committee for Acquisition of Statewide Resources.
In 1987, Chief Sowles accepted the position of Administrative Captain withthe Cathedral City Fire Department.
