Dr. Sherman Sowby has some advice for parents of teenage girls: Don't let your daughters date older males.
"If you have a 15 or 16-year-old daughter who's going with an 18 or 19-year-old boy, it's just a recipe for disaster," said Sowby, a health educator at California State University, Fresno, for 31 years.
...
Teen pregnancy disrupts the lives of the teen parents in many ways, Sowby said.It makes it difficult for them to get through school and it stretches all of their available time to the last second. It also becomes an added burden for their families.
"Not everyone takes advantage of the continuation programs," Sowby said.
...
Sowby said the reality is that most teens will not be able to financially support their babies without the help of their families.
"It gives them help so that they're not frustrated on their own when the baby is having problems," Sowby said. -
