Professor David Southall is appearing before a General Medical Council Fitness to Practise panel.
The doctor worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London before moving to the North Staffordshire Hospital.
He was cleared of one charge of serious professional misconduct regarding the privacy of a woman known as Mrs D.
The panel heard there was 'insufficient evidence'.

Earlier in the hearing the panel heard a mother, Mrs H, claiming Professor Southall had created or was creating a file called 'SC' which contained original hospital records on her son, who was referred to Professor Southall at the Brompton Hospital.
Mrs H had spent several years trying to find the article fitness health magazine on the file.
On Friday, Professor Southall explained the purpose of creating special case files saying patients could be "dangerously unwell" and develop difficulties.
"We needed a system to find out quickly what was going on with the child," he said.
Child H, the son of Mrs H, was referred to Prof Southall in 1989.When he was nearly five, in March 1990, the family said they no longer wanted him to be involved in the child's care.
He previously admitted writing to a doctor saying the parents "liked the fact the H is sick" and that they treated him like a baby.
'No risk'
The panel also heard he wrote: "We have suspicions of their motives and view child H's long-term prognosis with great concern."
The hearing was also told the letter was copied to a consultant paediatrician at another hospital not involved in the boy's care and that Prof Southall took Child H's file with him when he moved to a new job in Complete fitness guide health loss new revised walking weight.
