Operating 24 CertiFit stores across the U.S., Ostler International will start shipping 10,000 different types of after-market auto body parts to 18 of its stores from the Memphis facility, says Jay Sorensen, Ostler vice president for operations.

"We needed to serve the East Coast better," Sorensen says about selecting the Memphis location."We considered other cities, such as Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati, but chose Memphis for its good-sized labor force and the lower costs associated with getting parts from Taiwan to Memphis."

The decision to open a Memphis facility was reached during the first quarter of 2005, he says.

The gravity of this loss is still unbelievable for Jay Sorenson, vice president for Ostler International."It's still all too soon," he says.Company executives have not yet moved forward with a succession plan, but for now, Sorenson doesn't foresee any major changes for the company as it moves forward without its president."There have been no discussions about this yet," he says.
