    Young Song is the principal of Song + Associates , Inc. , an award winning design firm located in South Florida.With a staff of 20 , Mrs. Song built the firm's reputation for excellence-based upon her unrelenting dedication to quality in both creative design execution and optimal service to clients.

    Mrs. Song has a unique combination of credentials , licensed as an architect , engineer and interior designer.Born in Korea , she came to the United States as a sophomore in college earning degrees in architecture and structural engineering from the University of Illinois.In her 20-year career , she has been responsible for the design and planning of educational , commercial , financial , office , medical and recreational facilities.

    As an advocate of the arts , community development and education , she is currently serving on the City of West Palm Beach Downtown Action Committee , Palm Beach County Cultural Council Planning Committee , Business Development Board of Directors , and the Palm Beach County Historic Preservation Board.She is also a former member of the Board of Director of Florida Stage.

    Mrs. Song has provided services for a significant number of educational facilities throughout South Florida ranging from additions and renovations to existing facilities to complete campus design.

    For one of the largest school districts in the United States , the Palm Beach County School District , Mrs. Song recently completed a comprehensive assessment program of over 40 schools 35 years and older ( grades K-12 ) to determine their physical and educational adequacy ratings to deliver programs for the 21st Century.Her innovative approach to facility assessment was the first of its kind to combine educational adequacy assessment with the physical infrastructure assessment to provide the District with a more accurate rating structure of their older facilities to deliver/house instructional programs.Using nationally recognized experts in facility assessment and educational adequacy , the team assessed all of schools with involvement and input from local principals , district staff , and the community.Over 40 schools on the program were assessed in a five-month period and recommendations were delivered to the school board.The school board is using the results of the study to determine which schools will be first to be renovated or replaced to meet the needs of the community within the budget and goals of the District.

    Building consensus and understanding educational priorities has been the major focus of Mrs. Song's strategy in developing educational facilities across the state.Other notable public projects that she has been responsible for include : the Pine Grove Elementary Magnet Performing Arts School of Choice ; the renovation of the historic Fort Pierce Elementary into a Magnet School for the Arts ; and Olympic High School campus addition of 24 classrooms.

    In the private sector , Mrs. Song has worked with The Benjamin School for the past five years.For this prestigious college preparatory school , she has implemented a phased plan to unify the campus and expand facilities.Her design for the School of the Arts , which was completed in 1997 , earned the AIA Award of Architectural Excellence.
