    Alex J Sobin was born in Cleveland, Ohio the second of two children and was the Class Valedictorian of the 1945 graduating class of South High School.He attended Case Institute of Technology (Now Case Western Reserve) and received a bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.In 1965, he graduated from USC with a MS degree.He was a respected rocket scientist who participated in rocket programs ranging from the early Atlas missile program (Apollo) to the Space Shuttle and ballistic missile defense programs.He retired as Chief Project Engineer after 32 years at the Rocketdyne division of Boeing.The author of numerous technical papers, he also edited the college textbook, "Liquid Propellant Technology".

    Al married his wife Dorothy in Cleveland, Ohio in 1955 and then in 1956 they moved to California.

    Al also found time to serve as an Elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church and was active in the seniors Mariners Club.Early photos show Al with his radio control airplanes, he was an avid model builder since childhood, and he was a member of the Santa Barbara radio control club.

    He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hiking, gardening and traveling.He will be greatly missed by family and friends from Ohio to California.

    Funeral Services were held Tuesday, June 25th at the Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church.
