Dr. Bart Sobel

Bart Sobel, Ed.D. is a Director, Secretary/Treasurer, and member of the Advisory Board of the Foundation.

Dr. Sobel's duties are to serve as a Director and Secretary/Treasurer of the Foundation, as well as Chair of the Advisory Board.He will thereby oversee, govern and carry out the purposes and activities of the Foundation.

Dr. Sobel received his doctorate from Boston University in educational philosophy.After teaching at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Bart Sobel took over managing directorship of his family sports camp in New England.Over the years, Dr. Sobel has become very well known on an international level for his writings and presentations regarding liability issues when working with people in organized programs.His background in philosophy is an excellent balance to the more empirical science orientation of the Foundation for Aging Studies and Exercise Science Research and his knowledge of liability issues will be of invaluable service in developing programs which may be funded by the Foundation.

In 1981, he succeeded his father as a year-round director of Camp Winaukee. Previously, Bart was a Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in educational philosophy. eff Freedman, known affectionately as "Freedo", directs the Island Camp and is responsible for staff recruitment. Freedo was a longtime camper at Winaukee and received the "All Around Camper Award" in 1979. He was a collegiate NCAA All-American athlete.

Bart and his brother, John, purchased the camp in 1979 from their father Jesse "Doc" Sobel. Bart graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1968 and earned a Doctorate in Education from Boston University in 1971. He was a Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1972 to 1978.
