Knowing full well the Age of Reason has long ago left the American consciousness, and in its place is media-induced safety hysteria and the delusion of a government-sponsored guarantee for a risk free life, I find myself compelled to defend that jewel of all unpopular causes, the right to keep and bear arms. It is indeed a sad day in the "Great Republic" when its own citizens petition the government for the registration and control of the very instrument that secured both their independence and their liberty.Too often we forget those brave minutemen and women who sacrificed their lives, possessions and their beloved families to a volley of musket and cannon fire unleashed by their own government!What an abomination it must be in the eyes of these valiant men and women that their inheritors should cowardly squander the only enforcing mechanism left to a free people so that some may live the delusion of a risk free life. Removing, regulating, or restricting any right by force of law is hardly the talisman of a moral or free people.In a country that was conceived on the sovereignty of the individual, self-defense is not only a God-given right, but also a responsibility.
