Mayo Foundation's outgoing chief administrative officer, Bob Smoldt, has taken the helm of a major new Mayo Clinic effort to influence the evolution of the nation's health care system.
"Bob has really been instrumental in orchestrating the work of the Health Policy Center," said Dr. Denis Cortese, Mayo Foundation president.

Smoldt is leading the center's quest to hold symposia countrywide, each drawing experts from diverse fields, including business, insurance, health care and patient advocacy.
"The country is clearly going through another stage where we're looking at 'should we be doing some health care reform?'" Smoldt said."We want to be involved in that discussion."
Next, the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center plans to release a list of the top five things the next president of the United States should do to improve the way the U.S. health system works, Smoldt said.Also, Smoldt said, the center will release a list of the top five things the private sector should do.
"The nice thing about Mayo is it's always evolving, it's always learning, and it's moving the ball forward," he said.
