Dainis Smits Dainis Smits was born in the USA. Both of his parents are from Latvia and he grew up in an ethnic family with strong cultural values were he learned the Latvian language at a very young age. He was raised in Chicago and completed his studies in architecture at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He has worked in design and the construction industry for over 20 years.

Two years after his first trip to Latvia in 1990, Dainis Smits felt the call to live in Latvia on a permanent basis to serve the Lord through his architectural profession and church ministry. In 1997, he established CBMC Latvia. Since then many they have organized many conferences, seminars and outreach events to minister to business people in the market place for Christ. Dainis Smits is also one of the founders of the Latvian Evangelical Alliance and helped establish a business ministry work group called "Pro Forma" that acts as a platform for cooperation between Christian business ministries in Latvia. He is married to Vaiva.
