    ...
Captain Scott has operated the Dolphin Dream since 1986 and has logged more hours in the water with wild Spotted dolphin than any other human. His love and respect for these dolphins had led to a unique relationship. Captain Scott was instrumental in getting these dolphins to open up to humans. The dolphins now join him and his passengers for games, such as pass the scarf or the occasional petting. All with completely wild dolphins, no training or feeding. Captain Scott has identified, documented, and cataloged 3 generations with the same groups of dolphins. He has beautiful and educational gift line such as a book, prints, adopt-a-dolphin, etc. All proceeds help fund his valuable identification research.

    WHO: SCOTT SMITH

Scott Smith grew up in the Northwest and began exploring the facets of S&M at an early age. With his creative and rather deviant mind, he enthusiastically developed his techniques of bondage and suspension from his experience with nautical and high angle rope work. The powerful physical interactions that became the hallmark of his S&M activities were initially necessities for various activities including white water rafting, scuba, climbing, and paramedical rescue.Scott brings a distinct intensity and passion to the ebb and flow of learning, teaching and actualizing S&M.

Scott is a believer that the magic of BDSM comes through the connection of the participants and his workshops develop and nurture that connection while maintaining a decidedly sadistic edginess.

Scott is an active member of Chicago Hellfire Club, Delta Brotherhood International, and GMSMA.Starting in the early 90's, he has presented countless workshops and seminars throughout the country for organizations including: Chicago Hellfire Club, GMSMA, Leather University, C-Space, Living in Leather, OCLA, Sampler, Inferno, Thunder in the Mountains, Black Rose, Journeyman Academy, Orlando Bash, UPEX, Southplains Leatherfest and various international venues.Scott has received a number of awards, and is incredibly honored to be a recipient of the Chicago Hellfire Club's Caligula award.

By SCOTT SMITH THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
    ...
He was a know-it-all. An arrogant, self-centered, immature jerk.

He worked for a successful, mid-sized newspaper in the mid-1980s and through his hard work and (by his estimation) prodigious abilities had ascended into a middle-management position in his area of expertise. There was no doubt in his 30-year-old mind that he deserved - or should we say, was entitled to - the job.

He worked long hours, led by example, strived for perfection and did his best to communicate clearly and fairly. But deep down, he was frustrated. Unhappy. Even angry. His insecurities regularly bubbled to the surface in unseemly ways. Frankly, he was a cancer.

He whined about decisions that he deemed incorrect or flat-out stupid. He was intolerant of others' deficiencies, be they real or imagined. He second-guessed his boss, but never to his face. He was sure he could do everyone's job better than they could. He spewed venom and perfected the nuances of passive-aggressive behavior. He created chaos where none was needed. One day, he was pontificating to a co-worker about everything that was wrong in the department, the newsroom and the newspaper in general. His words were vitriolic, his attitude predictably self-righteous. Another co-worker - a relatively new hire who the jerk had embraced as a friend - sidled up to the loud discussion and listened. He waited for a pause in the tirade, shook his head and glared at the whiner.

"You," he said, "are a pathetic human being. And he walked away.

The jerk shut up, stung by the words that came from a man he liked and respected and considered a friend. He was stunned and embarrassed. But at that precise moment, the proverbial light of understanding flashed on in his brain.

THE RUINS by SCOTT SMITH (Alfred A. Knopf) is the author's long in the works (thirteen years!) follow-up to his bestselling 1993 debut A SIMPLE PLAN.
    ...
That's not to say the book doesn't have its strengths: Smith is a mighty fine writer, and knows how to conjure a steadily building horrific atmosphere from just a few lines (which makes it all the more puzzling that he so mercilessly drags things out here).
