Joy began her career in the wine trade back in 1984 with Gilbeys/IDV, working the "free trade" in the Midlands area.Leaving behind Archers, Taboo and Mirage, Joy moved to Seligmans in Birmingham who in turn became part of the Freetraders organisation, then Grant's of St James and eventually Mathew Clarke!

After a successful spell with Mathew Clark, Joy was lured to Alliance in 1997.

Based in Birmingham, (she claims to be an adopted Brummie!), Joy is responsible for local on trade business, an extensive network of distributors and retailers and looks after some major national accounts.

In between work and spending time with her daughter, she is the Chairman of the Midland Wine and Spirits Association and she also runs charity balls for the WSTA.

I was driven there by the vivacious Joy Clayton Smith of Alliance Wines, and as we went along Chapel Street w passed the Shakespeare Hotel, where Jill and I spent the first night of our honeymoon in 1968.
