Greg Smith, Former White House Associate Counsel, Joins Sutherland

Smith, former counsel to President Bill Clinton, has joined the firm's Washington office as counsel in the litigation practice.Greg's practice will focus primarily on white-collar criminal defense, but he will also handle general civil litigation matters.
Greg joined Sutherland after serving as an Associate Counsel to the President of the United States.While at the White House Counsel's Office, Greg assisted the Clinton Administration in its dealings with the Office of Independent Counsel Robert Ray.

Prior to moving to Washington, Greg worked for several years at a large Atlanta law firm, and then spent a decade as a staff attorney in Atlanta's Federal Defender Program, where he obtained substantial trial and appellate experience including successfully briefing and arguing a case before the United States Supreme Court.
Greg is a former president of the Atlanta Bar Association, the largest metropolitan bar association in the Southeastern United States.He still serves as a member of the American Bar Association's House of Delegates, and he previously served on the ABA Criminal Justice Section's Executive Council.He is also a former president of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, and an alumnus of Leadership Georgia's Class of 1993.
