Several of her works of art are now in the special collections of Bowdoin, Smith, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth and Wellesley colleges and at the University of New England, where a video of her work was produced for teachers to use in training health professionals to be sensitive and effective in their interaction with patients.
She enjoyed teaching, encouraging and supporting everyone around her, sailing, gardening, hiking the Andes, swimming the coral reefs, writing poetry and art.
She helped to found the Cancer Community Center in South Portland. She served on the board of the YWCA and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Dartmouth College in 2001 for cancer advocacy.
Survivors include her parents, Dwight A. and Gertrude Smith of Kearsarge, N.H.; her husband of 32 years, Alan Hall of Orr's Island; two daughters, Gabrielle Hall of San Francisco, Calif., and Danielle Hall of Cliff Island; a sister, Laurel Smith and her husband, Kevin Donohoe of Boise, Idaho; three brothers, Dwight E. Smith and his wife, Becky, of South Waterford, Eric Smith and his wife, Susan, of South Portland, and Ralph Smith and his wife, Corinne, of Milwaukie, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.
