    Operations

    George Smith, Director of Operations, has over 27 years of experience in the entertainment industry.Beginning his career at a drive-in movie theatre in 1978, Mr. Smith says "the theatre bug bit him" and he has worked in the industry ever since that time.

    George joined Crown Theatres in 2004 following a long tenure at United Artists Theatres.While at United Artists, he managed several multiplexes in PA, and MD, as well as administering compliance operations for theatres in the Southeastern United States while based in Atlanta.In 1993, Mr. Smith moved to Philadelphia where he became Regional Manager, overseeing more than 30 locations in the mid-Atlantic region.During that time, he was actively involved in the growth of the territory, developing and building over 125 new screens.

    In addition to his interest in theater operations, George has served on several industry committees.Most recently, he was a Board Director and the Assistant Treasurer for NATO of PA, where he also served on the scholarship and finance committees.Additionally, he was active in fund raising activities with the Variety Club of Philadelphia, an organization dedicated to the needs of children with disabilities.

    The sluggish box office has manifested itself at the Crown Harbour 9 and Crown Annapolis Mall 11 theaters, both which have seen a decrease in ticket sales, said George Smith, director of operations for the Connecticut-based Crown Theatres.

    "I think we're just in one of these slumps, and we are going to overcome it," he said.

    In the meantime, the Annapolis theaters will keep business steady as Crown puts a "heavy emphasis on customer service," he said.
