Smith later transferred to The University of Mississippi where he earned both bachelors and masters degrees in print journalism.He also holds the masters of Bible Theology degree from the International Bible Institute & Seminary and was formerly a doctoral candidate at Oklahoma State University.
Smith received Christ and was baptized in the Holy Ghost in 1976.He was licensed as a minister in the Church of God in Christ in 1980 and ordained an elder in 1981.He served as the founder and campus minister of the Ole Miss Church of God in Christ Fellowship from 1984 to 1994.In 1994 Smith briefly held the position of pastor at Kelly Chapel Church in Robinsonville, Mississippi.Presently he is the founder and pastor of New Freedom Family Ministries in Oxford, Mississippi.
His work experience has included being a reporter/photographer for The Daily Sentinel-Star in Grenada; serving as Director of Public Information at Rust College; being a public relations staff writer at Ole Miss; laboring as senior editor of Rejoice!The Gospel Music Magazine; and teaching as instructor of journalism both at Rust and later at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Most recently he returned to Rust College where he served as Director of Public Relations/Donor Research Officer.Presently Smith is a communications specialist in the Media and Public Relations Office at The University of Mississippi.
With almost 30 years of service in the ministry, Elder Smith has not only pastured churches, but he has also conducted revivals, organized street services and witnessing teams, done jail, prison and nursing home visitation, performed weddings, baptisms, and funerals.He and his wife, the former Fannie Jenkins of Oakland, Mississippi, have conducted marriage and family seminars, singles conferences, and Purity with Purpose Discipleship Classes.Elder and Missionary Smith recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Smith later transferred to The University of Mississippi where she earned hours towards a bachelor's degree.She holds the B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi as well as a masters of Christian counseling degree from the Carolina Theological Seminary.Currently she is working toward another undergraduate degree in social work at Ole Miss.

Chairlady for District No. 1 in the Northern Mississippi Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction from 1991 to 1994.Presently she is the first lady of New Freedom Family Ministries in Oxford, Mississippi.
Her work experience has included being a librarian at the Oxford-Lafayette County Public Library; serving as a classroom teacher for I.C.S. Head Start Centers in Grenada, Batesville, Byhalia and Olive Branch, Mississippi; being a classroom teacher, center director and parent involvement coordinator for the Tulsa County Head Start Program in Oklahoma.Presently Smith is an elementary teacher in the Holly Springs Primary School.
