Douglas Pearson Smith

The Founders son Douglas Pearson Smith a former First Glasgow Company Captain, was appointed to the Foreign Department of the BBC in London.Now having been forced to withdraw from active service in the life of the organisation his thoughts turned to ways and means of supporting those still participation in the Company.

Douglas Pearson Smith realised how important the BB life was and particularly the well being of the First Glasgow.He appreciated even people with little personal connection to the First found the Company of interest and wished it's continuance and success assured.Therefore he thought those who wished the Company to continue to thrive would be prepared to subscribe to a fund which gave financial support in exchange for news of it's activities and development.Thus "Friends of the First" was established.
