Dr. Donald J. Smith, Jr. is a ChildTrauma Fellow as well as a co-founder and current Board President / Executive Director for Generations Center, a non-profit center for the investigation and prevention of youth and family violence.Dr. Smith, who previously served as the Research Director at the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Smith possesses a unique law enforcement perspective to domestic violence and child abuse, developed while serving nine years as a patrol officer in the City of Dallas.
In 1998, Dr. Smith entered the research arena in the field of domestic violence and child abuse; primarily the biological/physical manifestations of long-term exposure to domestic violence and child abuse including an emphasis upon the physiological/emotional impact of strangulation attacks related to domestic violence.
Dr. Smith, since 2001, has partnered with the Dallas Independent School District and is co-author of a program that provides training to educators and counselors about the dynamics of abuse in the home, its' impact upon children, as well as safe and appropriate intervention techniques for families of violent homes.
Dr. Smith currently serves on many community and professional committees related to Youth and Family Violence in the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex. -
