   Don Smith, former Burke County Republican Party chairman, says the dinner has been a tradition in the county for years. "It's been going as long as I can remember, and I'm 75 years old," he says. Smith says the dinner is the county Republican Party's way of honoring Lincoln each year, as well as being a rallying event for local political leaders.
