Smith said the grant represents a maximum 80 percent of the project cost and a minimum of 20 percent in a local match.Friday's presentation is the first step toward receiving a notice to proceed with the project, Smith said.An agreement must be signed that will detail the project and responsibilities of the sponsor and the Division of Highways.

An environmental review by the state historic preservation officer must be conducted for projects that have an impact on historic properties.There will be a 45-day public review and comment period.

"You will be assigned to someone to work with who will be able to answer any questions," Smith told the council.

Smith said the governor had to choose from a number of requests for the transportation funds.
