    This series of seminars will be hosted by Charlotte City Councilor Dee Smith, owner of Baumann Manor Bed & Breakfast in Charlotte, and former director of the Small Business Development Center at Lansing Community College.Smith and other presenters will offer programs focused on the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, and the important financial and legal considerations of staring a new business.

    The January program will feature a presentation on small business start-ups from Smith, as well as presentations on legal and financial issues from attorney David Smith and accountant Bill Shetenhelm.

    CHARLOTTE - Though it took four separate votes, the Charlotte city council voted unanimously March 28 to appoint Dee Smith to the vacant first ward council seat.

    Smith replaces Jason Vanderstelt who resigned at the end of February.
