Dr. Kenneth C. Haugk, Founder and Executive Director of Stephen Ministries St. Louis, surprises Accounting Supervisor Dee Smith with a plaque honoring her ten years of service to the organization.
    ...
Dee Smith's decade of service has truly been a blessing to her Stephen Ministries coworkers, as well as the hundreds of customers she has assisted over the years.Noting Stephen Ministries' organizational development and continuing progress over the past 10 years, Dr. Haugk attributes much of it to dedicated employees like Dee whose hard work, integrity and quiet leadership set the pace for others..Dee says that one of the things she appreciates most about Stephen Ministries is that she is "in a community of Christians, who walk and talk their faith."

Growing up with three brothers in a small town in West Virginia, Dee earned a bachelor's degree from Fairmont State College in West Virginia and went on to receive her master's at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she met her husband, Ron.

After graduating from Purdue, the Smith family has had several cross-country moving adventures.Leaving Indiana and heading to Portland, Oregon, they enjoyed six "cool" years, camping, hiking, and exploring the wonderful lush, green Northwest. When Ron changed jobs, the family headed to Houston, Texas, where Ron and Dee--and their two children, Alison and Brian--lived as Texans for five years.Another job change brought them here to St. Louis, their home now for more than 15 years.

Dee first heard about Stephen Ministries through her congregation, Community Christian Church, a Stephen Ministry congregation in Manchester, Missouri.Hearing about openings in our accounting department, she came to work for Stephen Ministries first as an accounting clerk, but soon became our Accounting Supervisor, overseeing the department, preparing financial reports, communicating with customers and vendors, and assisting staff members.Among her colleagues, the staff at Stephen Ministries, Dee is both a wise expert and a good friend--especially as she makes her rounds on payday!

Dee adamantly expresses that her favorite thing about St. Louis is not the weather, but that after being planted here for 15 years--it is home--and "home is always a nice place to be."

We--Stephen Ministries staff and constituents--are truly blessed to have Dee as a part of the Stephen Ministries St. Louis family.
