(JACKSONVILLE - March 13, 2002) , Jacksonville College proudly welcomes Debra White Smith as the guest speaker for the twenty-sixth annual Manley Lecture Series.

Debra is a 1990 honor graduate of Jacksonville College and a member of the Alpha Beta Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.She will speak in the Buckner Chapel on the campus of Jacksonville College March 18, 2002, at 10:00 a.m.
Debra holds a B. A. and M.A. in English from University of Texas, Tyler and says that she would almost rather write than eat.She has written nearly three hundred articles for publication across the nation and has twenty-nine book sales of both fiction and nonfiction to her credit.Her book publishers include Harvest House, Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City, Barbour, ChariotVictor, and Tyndale.Her projects have appeared on various bestseller lists across the nation, and since 1997, she has had over half a million books and novellas in print.Furthermore, readers of Heartsong Presents have repeatedly voted Debra and her novels as favorites.As a novelist, she has been compared to Agatha Christie.As a nonfiction author, she has been called "fresh, helpful, eloquent."
Debra loves radio and teases that "when she grows up" she wants to be a full-time radio professional.Listeners may often hear Debra as a guest on national radio programs or even on the air in her hometown of Jacksonville.She speaks for retreats and conferences across the nation, but still considers herself a "down home," all-american girl who loves the simple pleasures of life such as fishing, swimming, gardening, and reading.She admits with a grin, that she would walk fifty miles for a scoop of German Chocolate ice cream.
