    Connell also directed and produced the short film "Animating Mr. Saint John" (Tidal Wave Film Festival 2002). He co-produced, with Gretchen, the dramatic short "Cutting Luce" which was selected by both the Atlantic Film Festival and the Tidal Wave Film Festival in 2001. In 2003 he co-produced, wrote, and directed the dramatic short "Searching for Daniel Baldwin," winner of the Audience Choice Award at the Saint John One Film Festival.

    Connell worked for seventeen years in television news before going into filmmaking. In 1998, he travelled to Bulgaria to document the efforts of a Maritime business group attempting to make inroads. He produced, photographed, edited, and narrated the resulting four-part series that appeared on CTV stations in the Maritimes. Connell is also an Associate Producer with CBC Radio in Saint John. His half-hour "Maritime Magazine" documentary "The Homeland" was a finalist in the 2003 Atlantic Journalism Awards. He is a member of the board of directors of The New Brunswick Filmmakers Cooperative.
