    Congressman Adrian Smith's ongoing efforts to support growth and development legislation were officially recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

    The Chamber awarded Smith with the "Spirit of Enterprise" Award after the congressman stood side by side with nearly 20 "key" legislative issues, which the Chamber either supported or opposed in its efforts to promote the growth of America's businesses.

    "Representative Smith has proven to be an effective ally to the business community, supporting legislation, which helps grow the economy and creates new jobs for hardworking Americans," said Tom Donohue, Chamber president and CEO."

    Of the 20 legislative issues that the Chamber highlighted as key pieces of legislation, Smith allied himself with the Chamber's positions on 19 of them.Two key pieces of legislation that Smith himself highlights during 2007 were the Water Resources Development Act and the Internet Tax Freedom Act amendments.

    Smith is a member of the Congressional Rural Caucus, a bipartisan coalition of representatives committed to strengthening and revitalizing rural communities across America.

    "Obviously, the importance of this Caucus to rural America, and Nebraska, can't be understated," said Charles Isom, communications director for Smith.

    "Our rural areas need Congress to be aware of the unique challenges they face, which is exactly why Congressman Smith joined this Caucus, and is active on the Rural Development Subcommittee and the Economic Development Caucus."

    Smith is also on the Entrepreneurial Initiative Task Force, which is a group of representatives who foster, "an environment where both private and public sector employees can prosper with limited regulations and minimal federal intrusion," said Isom.
