    Mr. Smith, a native of New York State, began his career in 1934 with Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester.He worked part time while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology.He graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1938 and began full-time employment with Kodak as a development engineer on the technical staff in the Paper Service Division.

    In 1942, Mr. Smith was named head of the technical staff in the Paper Service Division; and in 1943, he became administrative supervisor of that division.

    On Jan. 1, 1947, Mr. Smith became assistant superintendent of the Paper Service Division, a position he held until his appointment as Director of Paper Service in 1957.

    Mr. Smith was appointed administrative assistant to the general manager, Kodak Park Division, in May 1962.In July 1968, because of his leadership abilities and his ability to build community partnerships, he was appointed manager of the Colorado Division of Eastman Kodak Co., where he was responsible for the construction and operation of the new facility until his retirement in 1979.He and his family resided in Greeley for many years.

    Throughout his career, Mr. Smith participated in many community service-oriented organizations.During his tenure as general manager of Kodak Colorado Division, he was active on numerous boards, including Affiliated Bankshares of Colorado; Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry (the state Chamber of Commerce); Colorado Safety Association; Colorado State University College of Natural Sciences, Center for Research and Education; CSU Extension Advisory Council; CSU Research Advisory Council; Governor's Housing and Community Development Council; Greeley Chamber of Commerce; Greeley Economic Development Advisory Board; and Greeley National Bank.

    He also served on the Longs Peak Council of Boy Scouts of America as president of the North Central Region; Mountain States Employers Council; Hospital Services Inc.; and the University of Northern Colorado Foundation.

    His active memberships included Chamber of Commerce for Denver, Fort Collins, Loveland, and Windsor; Colorado State Advisory Council; Denver Research Institute Advisory Panel; Governor's Energy Task Force for Industry and Manufacturing; and Industrial Advisory Council, Department of Industrial Sciences, CSU.

    Mr. Smith developed many friendships and business partnerships during his time in Colorado.His compassionate, genuine interest in others, his ability to listen and help to find solutions, and his unwavering belief in business and personal ethics are admired by many.He lived his entire life with a priority of helping and supporting his family, friends and even strangers.Dedicating his time to the development of Kodak Colorado and the communities where employees lived is evident in numerous nonprofit organizations, and the long-term relationships that were built during his years as general manager and through his retirement.
