A fascinating new series of light-hearted works by Nottingham artist and scientist Charlotte Smith.Untold Evidence explores the ways in which scientific language can infuse our everyday experiences and emotional lives.
The seventeen or so intricate and assiduous 'objects' meticulously created by Smith offer a fascinating visual feast, drawing together a mixture of ideas taken from museum display methods, Wollaton Hall's own natural history collection and theories as wide ranging as geology and chemistry.Poisonous plants are placed alongside poetry by Yeats; chemical structures for silicon, valium, nylon and progesterone are displayed in a silk-lined casket like pieces of precious jewellery, and the human emotions of an ordinary couple are transformed into a pair of thermometers.
