New Juried Member, Charlotte Smith, a Central Chapter member living in Gold Canyon, specializes in pine needle basketry.About a year ago, she moved to Arizona from Mississippi where she was a juried member in the Mississippi Craftsmen's Guild.After participating in two ADC shows, It Doesn't Match My Sofa, at the Shemer Art Center and the recent show at Yavapai College Art, she decided to seek juried membership in ADC.
In the past she has exhibited her work in various museums, art centers, universities and galleries in Mississippi, Georgia, Wisconsin, Texas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Montana.She has been referenced in the publication, Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot numerous times.Charlotte has also been active in demonstrations and teaching pine needle basketry.
This fall she will be teaching hand-coiled basketry at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and they will sell a pine needle ornament of her design that appeared on the Mississippi State Tree in Washington, DC, Christmas of 1999.In November, she is scheduled to teach hand-coiled basketry in Sedona, Arizona at the Sedona Arts League, and in February, having recently become a juried member of the Cody Country Art League, she will teach hand-coiling in Cody, Wyoming.

Charlotte Smith, a newly Juried Member of ADC who works with fiber hand-coiled pine needle basketry, recently had two works accepted for the West Virginia Art and Craft Guild's 5th Competition.Her pieces will travel with the exhibit around West Virginia through May.
