If the majority of people serving bowling in some way are doing it as a labor of love, then that is personified in Warren Hills Regional High School Bowling Coach Adam Slack.A 25-year-old graduate from Millersville University, Slack's specialty is in technology education.

"I could have gone elsewhere and made more money, but with the travel and the time, I wanted to be closer to home and give something back to the community," he said. Two years ago this middle school teacher (Warren Hills Middle School) wanted to not only teach technology, but also to coach some kind of sport.A bowling coach was sought, and so he applied."I'm an average bowler (his average is "down" to 210 in his regular league at Oakwood Lanes)" but I enjoy hanging out with high school kids. They are on the verge of going into the real world."So he achieved his Level 1 USBC Coaching Certification and, as he said, "read tons of books."The coaching training helped him to work with sub-par and entry level bowlers as well as the better athletes.

He is proud of his girls' and boys' teams and especially likes to see the kids succeed with their first turkey or first 200, or to see people like Darren Flynn step up in the tenth frame and strike out when needed.
    ...
Coaching has also had a down side for Adam.
    ...
For Slack, it's all about the kids."I even find myself bowling better when I bowl with them.I still keep in touch with some of last year's (graduating) bowlers."Even though Adam said he wanted this interview to emphasize the young people, my hat is off to coaches like Slack, who are motivated to, well, motivate!
