Richard Sims, Wellington State Bank president and a leader in the fight to keep the Collingsworth General Hospital open, said a fund to help pay off part of the hospital's debts has reached $110,000 already.
"It's a very strong response," Sims said."We had a town hall meeting and told the people this isn't just talking or a cheerleading session. We told them they're going to have to put their money where their mouth is, and they're doing that."
Since the meeting last week, donations have flooded in from individuals and businesses ranging from $20 to $5,000, Sims said.

When all the steps were outlined at the meeting, Sims said nearly all the 200-plus people in attendance expressed strong support for keeping the hospital open, and that has translated into cash for the hospital fund.
