Addressing urban sprawl and resolving education revenue issues are among the reasons Richard Sims decided to run for the District 3 seat.

"I see potential issues which are not being addressed that must be looked into in a serious manner," said Sims, a seventh-grade science teacher at Northeast Middle School."I believe as a county commissioner I can have a greater impact on these issues."

Sims said he would like to see the school budget become more dependent on predictable property taxes and less reliant on sales taxes. He also listed controlling urban sprawl among items he would like to address in his first term, if elected.

Sims 44, has lived in the community eight years. He retired in 1995 as an Army master sergeant. He received his master's degree in education in August 1999 at Austin Peay State University.

He attends Clarksville Christian Center, where he was leader of the Wednesday night youth program from 1997 until May.He has been a co-sponsor of the Builder's Club, sponsored by the St. Bethlehem Kiwanis Club at Northeast Middle.

He is married to Judy Sims, and they live at 633 Durham Road in Adams. The couple have four children.
