LPA Chairman Rex Sims, owner of Heaven Scent Flowers on Old 41, said the overlay could be broadened to include everything from Bonita Beach Road to Rosemary Drive.

Sims added that he isn't convinced that the commercial zoning is necessarily a bad thing, but he's willing to study anything that would improve the corridor.
"We know development is coming for Old 41, and we want to be ready for it," Sims said.
Councilman David Piper owns Everglades Wonder Gardens, a historic roadside attraction on Old 41.He wants the city's vision to be implemented, he said, but that shouldn't hurt the livelihood of the area's business owners.
"I wouldn't want the city to become some grand overlord where it turns into some dictatorial situation where we say, 'You can do this and you can't do that,'" Piper said.
