    Mr. Sims died Monday , April 17 , 2000 , at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham.He was a native of Morgan County , a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church and a charter member of Hartselle Gideons Camp.He was a retired logistics specialist for the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and was a disabled veteran of World War II.He served in the 71st Infantry Division and in Patton's 3rd Army Europe and was a logistics advisor during the Vietnam War.

    He was involved with youth baseball in Hartselle for 48 years and served on the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Board for nine years , during which time Sparkman Civic Center was built.He was a graduate of Morgan County High School and attended Athens State Teachers College.He was the brother of the late Eric Sims , Pynion Sims , John V. Sims and Wallace A. Sims.He is survived by his wife , Sarah Inez Anders Sims of Hartselle ; two sons , Edward L. Sims of Decatur and Jerry Don Sims of Hartselle ; one daughter , Sarah Beth Sims Bell of Hartselle ; one sister , Adell Sims White of Hartselle ; six grandchildren ; and one great granddaughter.
