"We had to keep up with the demand," said Terry Simpson, manager of the Popeyes on Ruth Street in Sulphur.
...
About a month ago, that changed, Simpson said. Now, if anyone can work days and nights, they can start out at $6 an hour.
"We had to keep up with other businesses and their signs, or workers would go to the other jobs offering better pay," Simpson said.
A plus to the Popeyes job is that no knowledge of the business is needed, he said: "All training is provided. No skills necessary."
But Simpson does report getting people back.Occasionally he sees former employees coming in for short periods of time, but progress remains slow.
The new pay incentive is working in some Popeyes restaurants.
"I think the Sulphur stores are the hardest hit.We are much closer to Cameron," Simpson said.
