The UK minister for creative industries, Sion Simon, has admitted that Wales is getting a "raw deal" when it comes to internet broadband provision and next-generation networks.

In an interview on BBC Wales' AM-PM programme, Mr Simon was asked whether broadband access was a bigger problem in Wales than for the rest of the UK.

He agreed that the level of service provided by internet service providers (ISPs) in Wales was below par, and reiterated the government's pledge, as set out in the recent Digital Britain report, that the same minimum standard of internet broadband connectivity would be apply throughout the nation.

"You are right that Wales currently gets a raw deal from commercially provided broadband," he told the news provider.
