On the educational front we organized two successful seminars - LEED and Design-Build.
    ...
Our year of achievement was crowned with national recognition for our continued membership growth (over 3% from prior year) and our meeting of our PAC goal for the second year in a row (over $9,000 contributed to ACEC/PAC).
    ...
I am anxious to begin serving as your president during the upcoming year and I look forward to the challenges and successes we encounter. This organization has been led by great individuals and I am proud to share this honor.

As my first action as President, I would like to extend gratitude towards Past President Philios Angelides for his service to ACEC/MW.
    ...
We ask your help in this task by participating on the various committees of ACEC/MW to build a stronger organization that is better able to serve our area.

I would like to strengthen our relation with our neighboring member organizations in Maryland and Virginia.
    ...
We are somewhat unique in our status representing three jurisdictions and I believe our voice and representation will be enhanced with collaboration with these adjacent organizations. Many of our firms are members in Maryland and Virginia; a strong partnership will benefit all.
    ...
Interaction with our elected officials better positions us to monitor and provide input / testimony to impending legislation that affect the objectives of member firms, other members of the profession, allied professions and industries.

I look forward to the upcoming year and working with the Board, Executive Director, Committee Chairs and all ACEC/MW member firms during 2007/2008.
    ...
This year, we will promote and share our message that "ACEC/MW is the Voice of Metropolitan Washington's Engineering Community" and continue to build strong relationships with our clients and the entire community.

I would like to extend my gratitude to our member firms for the honor of serving as President for the past year and your support of our many activities throughout the year.
    ...
In reflecting on our activities over the past year, I am pleased about the achievements we made and the continued success for our organization and members. The committees have been very active in continuing industry and agency partnerships at the federal, state and local levels.
    ...
On the educational front, we organized two successful seminars - the NHI rating bridge seminar and low impact development (LID) practices. Our luncheon programs were equally well-attended; in fact, all luncheons exceeded prior years' attendance levels and provided great value to our members through networking with industry peers and leaders from presenting agencies.

Our achievements continued with national recognition at the ACEC National Conference for exceeding our PAC goal for the third and fourth year in a row. Our political activity continued last month when representatives of ACEC/MW attended ACEC's National Conference and the Consulting Congress Day in Washington, where we promoted ACEC's Legislative Agenda by meeting with the members of our Congressional Delegation.
    ...
We look forward to seeing all of you next year in June 2009.

What makes that voice so effective is the ACEC Political Action Committee -- ACEC/PAC -- the cornerstone of our congressional advocacy program.

ACEC/PAC helps the engineering industry elect pro-business candidates who understand our industry and support ACEC's key issues, such as infrastructure funding, contracting out, protecting QBS, and tax/regulatory reforms.

ACEC/MW has a strong foundation comprised of a large and diverse group of member companies, financial stability, and effective and active committees. We plan to build on this foundation to further strengthen our organization. In the coming year, our focus will be developing our firm and client senior leaders and fostering key partnerships with other entities and enhancing our communications with our members. We will:

Implement a Senior Leaders Development Program for member firms and our clients. Focus on and enhance our relationships with our clients, continuously looking for ways to help them with their challenges and work through issues we face in the engineering community, such as Qualifications Based Selection (QBS).
    ...
Forge and strengthen partnerships with trade associations and professional societies such as we have done with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and the DBIA, the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) to achieve collective synergy. Work closely with ACEC National, especially on membership and legislative matters so that we both may benefit from our close proximity and support each organizations interest in these areas. Enhance our government affairs involvement in support of ACEC National as well as ACEC/Maryland and ACEC/Virginia and continue our strong efforts in support of the ACEC federal PAC. Provide more information to our members and partners through our newsletter and website.
    ...
Collectively, we will all make the effort to ensure that at the end of the next year, we again will be able to say that ACEC/MW is stronger than it was a year ago. Were already off to a fabulous start with a great luncheon event in August sponsored by our Environmental Committee which was well attended. Were following up with another great event in September with key transportation leaders. I am very excited and honored to serve you all as President of ACEC/MW for the 2009-2010 member year and look forward to working with you to achieve our goals.
