Brokat recently signed contracts to sell a more advanced version of its M-Business Platform to Britain's Vodafone Group Plc, which has 93 million mobile-phone customers in 29 countries, and to T-Motion Plc, an Internet service adapted for mobile phones, Silke Simon, Brokat's director of investor relations, tells Card Forum."Mobile-phone commerce is an emerging technology, and financial constraints prevented us from making additional investments," Simon says.Garen Staglin, president and CEO of eOne Global, says his company will complete deals Brokat was unable to finish because of its financial problems."We want to continue to sell (Brokat's) technology to Vodafone and T-Motion," Staglin tells Card Forum Cellular-telephone users employ service providers to download credit card information on their phones for online and brick-and-mortar purchases, Simon says.Staglin says, however, that buying things is only one of a range of services mobile commerce will be able offer, including customizing the telephone's ring.EOne Global, which is based in Napa, CA, will work closely with Greenwood Village, CO-based First Data to determine the kinds of applications merchants want.Brokat's m-commerce division will become a subsidiary of eOne Global.
